Test Valley Walking is a new and sociable way to improve your health and wellbeing in our wonderful countryside for people at every level of fitness. Whether you are looking to begin exercise, lose weight, improve strength and conditioning or get ready for the ski season there is a workout for you.
Following a career in the charity sector Janet established Test Valley Nordic Walking to share her joy of the great outdoors whilst getting fitter. Walking with Nordic poles helped her recover from treatment for breast cancer in 2009. She found that Nordic walking improved her post surgery posture, toned her whole body, burnt more calories and was more sociable than other types of exercise!
Janet is a great encourager and loves to support others to improve their health and increase their wellbeing. One client recently said, ‘I feel so much lighter on my feet.’
Robert ‘found’ Nordic Walking after many years as competitive sportsman and mountain sports enthusiast (including skiing), and has been converted. He believes it is an ideal, holistic way, to achieve sustainable health and wellbeing, balancing both the mind and body. He has been Nordic Walking for 6 years including completing a number of long distance paths throughout the UK and Europe. He has completed the diploma in Exercise Referral and Ski – Fit course.
By training I am a Data Scientist and have spent most of my career as a Consultant working with clients to help them better understand their customers. I am passionate about people – understanding what makes them tick and helping them, and the companies they interact with, get the most out of life and whatever it is they are doing. I am also a bit of an Endurance event junkie and have always found myself chasing a new challenge. Having spent a lot of time running and knocked Marathons and Ironman Triathlon off my list a knee injury made me rethink my whole strategy and my great friends, Robert & Janet Herring got me along to try “Nordic Walking”. I haven’t looked back and now Nordic Walking in it’s many forms from Work Out Walks to One Off Challenges like the Purbeck Marathon Walk are now staples for training and just for fun. I have enjoyed Nordic Walking so much that I went through the training to become an Instructor as it is such a flexible and all round way to get fit and maintain health.
“Just back home after a wonderful 8 mile walk in the beautiful Hampshire countryside – a cold morning with bright blue skies and stunning views – Nordic Walking with a group of 7 others. As far as I am concerned its the best exercise EVER! Anywhere – literally the world. Anytime – no schedules. Any place – from your front door or travel and all at minimal cost. Alone or part of a group. I love it, which is why I’ve trained as a Walk Leader with NWUK.”
